Passed with Mr Arshed Lodhi at Colton. He is a very patient and encouraging instructor. I recommend him and the company MJ driving School to anybody looking for driving lessons.

I will recommend Mrs Hona Ghate to anyone willing to learn how to drive. We did only two lessons and I passed my test on the first attempt at Colton Mill.

Just wanted to share my experience with a previous instructor so others can avoid the same situation. His name is Shafik Shah.

From early on, he made comments that felt off — saying things like “I trust you enough to close my eyes for a second while you drive” or “I can take phone calls with you behind the wheel.” As a young South Asian woman, I now realise he was sweet-talking in a manipulative way, and I was too polite and unsure to call it out at the time.

He also lied about not taking students from places like Harehills or Chapeltown — when in reality, he did. He acted like he was doing me a favour by teaching me, but truthfully, he didn’t teach me anything useful. No structure, no proper guidance, no test prep. It felt like he deliberately held back on teaching key things so I’d keep booking more lessons.

His focus seemed more on keeping up his “reputation” than actually helping me become a safe, confident driver. I left feeling unprepared, disappointed, and like I’d wasted my time and money.

Spent a year with him, funny thing is as soon as I switched driving instructors. I passed within 4 months of 1hr lessons with another amazing driving instructor. With routes I’ve never been, just because the right instructor will teach you how to drive fast & efficiently enough to drive anywhere.

Just putting this out there — if something feels off, trust your gut. Don’t be afraid to switch instructors. You’re paying to learn, not to be messed around.

I passed my driving test on the 21st of July with the help of Shafiq Shah. I couldn’t recommend Shafiq highly enough, from day one we were out driving and this helped build my confidence straight away. Shafiq was always punctual and never cancelled a lesson. He is calm and patient and really gets to know you as a person and what technique will work for you behind the wheel. Everything was always explained clearly and Shafiq never made me feel rushed it was always at my speed. Shafiq is easy to talk to and makes the process of learning enjoyable. I highly recommend Shafiq if you want to pass.

I passed my test on 16th July. Shah my driving instructor was a great driving instructor. He was very patient and thorough in getting me to the required level. Highly recommended.

Passed my test today with 3 minors after several lessons with Rizwan who was very knowledgable and patient.

Would highly recommend!

I couldn’t recommend my driving instructor, Teklit, more highly! From the very first lesson, he was incredibly patient and calm, which really helped build my confidence behind the wheel. I recently passed my driving test with only 2 minors, thanks to my instructor Hona. She was incredibly encouraging and supportive, a perfect instructor for someone who is feeling nervous about driving. I couldn’t recommend more highly.

Donna has helped me to build my confidence when driving after negative experiences elsewhere, as well as adapting her teaching to how I learn best. I pass d first time with just 4 minors, thanks to teklit, I started off in manual about two lessons, then I switched to automatic with teklit and never looked back, I can’t recommend him enough, he’s really good at making you more confident and relaxed behind the wheel. Towards the end before the test we did so many mock tests and it really helped me, thank you

I passed my test today with the amazing support and encouragement from my driving instructor Naila. She was so amazing during all my lessons and so supportive when I failed my initial test. She made me feel even more confident in my driving and always made sure I was comfortable. She remained very professional throughout all my lessons which I appreciated and was always flexible in her timings to accommodate me. I really enjoyed my driving lessons with Paul. He’s a fantastic instructor, calm, encouraging, and absolutely hilarious! Every session was fun and relaxed, and they never felt like typical lessons. I passed after leaning with Naila this year, having failed 4 times with other instructors in Leeds pre-Covid. She massively helped me feel more confident on the roads and was always patient with me!

Passed today first time in Wakefield with PAV as my instructor. Weekly lessons were great and Pav was always on time! He could answer any questions and helped guide me from being a beginner to passing!

Passed today after about 15 lessons with Paul. I went from being nervous about getting in a car to being able to drive confidently and safely within 2-3 months. I was surprised that I actually enjoyed the lessons as previously I hadn’t, Paul was a great instructor and did make me laugh. The lessons didn’t feel like a chore and I’d definitely recommend him and the driving school for anyone looking to learn.

Callum passed this morning with Lee, i just wanted to say what a credit to your company Lee is. He is one of the nicest people going, Callum does have some personal troubles and Lee has dealt with him so well all the way through. What a gentleman, i cant thank him enough

I passed my driving test on the 21st of march with the help of the lovely Shafiq. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. From day one we never wasted a minute of my learning time and was very good at analysing where my strengths and weaknesses were. He was always punctual and not once did he ever cancel on me. As a person himself he was super friendly and a built a great relationship with him over the few months we did lessons together. If you want to pass your test without wasting any time or money Shafiq is the instructor for you. Couldn’t be more grateful to this man.

Tekelit has had a reassuring a calm way of teaching from the very start of our lessons together. He structures his lessons so well, that you never feel like you’re doing too much all at once. A huge thank you for being an amazing instructor who has been so helpful and patient. He has pointed out clearly the mistakes I had and helped me correct it with detailed instructions. Before that I thought I would failed the test which was coming so soon as I did not leave a huge amount of time to start lessons before the test. But what he did is just what is needed for passing the daunting driving test and build confidence for driving!

After 5 years of back and forth lessons, 6 instructors and one cancelled test I finally passed first time at Bradford Thornbury test centre yesterday with Shafiq! I have been with Shafiq since the start of September and have gained immaculate confidence since. He is very accommodating to my needs of being a student in Manchester, has a very clean and modern car, and is very friendly! Thank you MJ driving school for finally giving me my long awaited licence!

I can’t quite believe I’m finally driving after a 14 year fear all thanks to Shafiq.

I’ve had automatic refresher lessons with him for the last 12 months after previously passing in a manual 14 years ago but never managing to drive due to a fear that built up as the years passed by.

Shafiq has been absolutely brilliant, always on time, patient, understanding of how my brain works & more importantly than anything went at my pace & never made me feel like I was wasting his time. Allowing me to repeat certain scenarios till I felt comfortable even if I could clearly do them whether that was in one lesson or over several weeks was no problem & I’d recommend him to anyone but in particular those struggling with driving anxiety.

I’d previously used another driving school in 2017 to try get me driving again but after 8 months I was told ‘you can drive so I don’t need to teach you anymore’ and never did manage to get in my own car after that until now!

I can’t quite believe after over a decade of being unable to, I’m now driving my own car not only locally but on a motorway too.
