Testimonials for Instructor Training / Part 3 / Standards Check Training

"I had completed a full course of instructor training with a large national driving school and felt my chances of passing the final part 3 test were very low. I desperately needed some techniques to help use the knowledge that I had to effectively pass the test and become a good instructor but was getting nowhere.

That's when I turned to Michael at MJ Driving School. He gave me the overall approach to teaching that I needed and showed me the techniques to channel my knowledge in to success. Within a few weeks I confidently took my part 3 test and passed....

Clive Sandle, Leeds

"My father was a driving instructor for many years and he studied the market to work out the best person to train me to be a driving instructor was - he said Michael is.....

Now I have been qualified for 3 years i totally agree with my father - Michael is a brilliant instructor trainer. Firstly, he got me easily through the 3 qualifying exams....Then he spent time training me properly how to work with learners and train new drivers easily and properly. I have now just done my Standards Test and gained a Grade A with 48 out of 51...... The best thing being I have done no more training since Michaels initial training and all I ever do every day is exactly what Michael trained me to do..... On top of that my diary is always full and I regularly put my prices up and I have a learner pass rate of 90% first time.....

So, now, having not just easily qualified, but worked on my own for 3 years I would highly recommend you to train with Michael if you wish to be successful at becoming a driving instructor.... I even travelled a long way for my training - it was well worth it

Angela Wignall, Chorley

"Thank you for the instructor training you provided me upon starting to work at your driving school. The techniques you introduced for me have made my driving lessons much easier, the learners learn easier and they love the lessons and really do become better drivers!

I wish I had been trained like this in the first place where I initially trained. I also feel massively confident about my forthcoming standards check as I can see your tecniques really do work and make coaching really easy -  I love my teaching so much more now - your techniques really work and it's great"

Niaz, ADI, Bradford

"Thank you - thank you, so much for your brilliant training. I was recommended to you after passing the ADI part 1 on my own for training for the part 2. I had previously received some driving lessons from another instructor and I was totally confused how to get this right and drive properly. You made it so simple and easy and with your help I easily passed the part 2 first time with just 2 minor faults.

Throughout the training for part 2 I could tell you were building my mind for the teaching (part 3 test) so i did all my part 3 training with you. I am so pleased I did as I have just passed my part 3 test easily with a grade 5 (mix of grade 5 and 6 all down the sheet) and with very high regard and compliments from the examiner after the test including that if I continue with the same techniques I will have no problem with the standards check

You made the training easy, simplified everything and have given me the skills to be a confident driving instructor - I found the part 3 test easy! I don't know what all the fuss is about in the industry - obviously the people who struggle or find it difficult haven'ty been trained by you.

If you are thinking of becoming a driving instructor don't even think of going anywhere else apart from Michael and MJ Driving School - he makes it so easy - his techniques are simple and brilliant

Thank you again!"

Zafar Iqbal, Sheffield

"I would highly recommend Michael to teach and train you to become a driving instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and training with him. He has a really nice teaching technique and his knowledge of the job is second to none. In addition to giving first class training he gave me all the tools I needed to pass my part 3 test!"

Jacqui Clark, Hull

"My instructor training was a great experience and I have now successfully completed my training and passed all my ADI qualifying tests including part 3 with Michael.

Michael has years of experience in the driver training and driving instructor industry and he has gained a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of driver training along with pupils individual learning techniques, which was a huge benefit for me, and massively helped me with the part 3 test."

Michael Styrin, Leeds

"The training from Michael at MJ driving school was just fantastic.......he makes training easy to understand, all common sense stuff that made complete sense and I was very quickly able to understand what an ADI is supposed to do. I was shown the best ways to teach as well as simple straight forward methods of teaching all subjects that pupils will need to know as well as how to work to pupils individual needs.

Michael was felxible on all aspects of training and I strongly believe that i wouldn't have passed my part 3 test first time if I had struggled on with the previous training school, who frankly seemed to be treating me like a cash cow

If you are reading this and considering your training with Michael at MJ Driving School, my advice is DO IT.... Read the Full Story of Sue's Instructor Training at Base of this Page

"I just passed my Part 3 Test First Time.....I also passed my Part 2 Test First Time - all thanks to Michael at MJ Driving School.

I had paid another company to do provide my training however I felt that the training was adequate enough and I didn't feel confident enough to take the exams. I found Michael and took training from him. Even though English is not my first and natural language he massively helped me pass both the part 2 and part 3 tests with easy to understand training

I would definitely not have passed both the tests first time without the training from Michael.. I am now so pleased to have easily passed the ADI qualifying exams and happy to be working full time with Michael as a driving instructor with his driving school.

Since qualifying I have been absolutely fully booked every day, all week with good quality work and enjoy the easy, low cost franchise which keeps my diary full and includes ongoing training and development for free

If you want to become a driving instructor and be successfull I would simply recommend, train and work with Michael - nobody else

Matthew Sebastian, Leeds

"Right from this first meeting I could tell Michael (Michael J Stanhope) was my kind of trainer, straight talking with a very clear picture in his mind of how to train me to be a good driving instructor. He seemed to understand what the DSA were looking for and as he had over 25 years of experience it seemed a no brainer.

The training was excellent, we initially focused on the skills that make a good instructor and then looked at how to build these in to the part 3 test. This ensured that I would have all the skills to be a good instructor when I passed and we weren’t just focusing on training to pass the test. Michael was amazingly supportive throughout the whole of part 3 and nothing was ever too much trouble.

I passed the Part 3 first time in October 2015 with a five in phase 1 and a four in phase 2. The examiner was very complimentary again about the skills I displayed and said he was looking forward to seeing my development on the check test.

With the help and support of Michael, his amazing insight in to the industry and his first class instruction techniques I have gone from unqualified to a fully qualified driving instructor with a green badge in less than 16 weeks.

The amazing training and instructional techniques from Mike have made the journey enjoyable and possible.

If you’re looking for an Instructor Trainer who will work with you to make you the best you can be then you have found them and your search is over.

Give Michael a ring you won’t regret it I promise.  Read Martin's full testimonial / review at the base of this page

Martin Atkinson

DSA Approved Driving Instructor

I had Driving Instructor training with MJ  Driving School based in Leeds and I must say I was very impressed.

I was hesitant initially whilst looking and didn't want to go with a large driving school who promise this and promise that if you pay lots of money.

I found MJ Instructor training on the Internet and rang them. What did come across straight away was  that the focus was on the training and not the money to pay and this made me feel very comfortable.

I therefore did my training with Michael which was absolutely fantastic and passed all three parts first time!

So having just passed my part 3 exam I am now a fully qualified driving instructor and I would definitely recommend MJ Instructor Training without any hesitation.

Maria Flynn, Leeds

My name is Shabnam, I came to see Michael for my part 3 as I was on my last attempt he SAVED me!. I have now passed my Part 3 Test!

I had received training from several 'trainers' before and was struggling to pass my part 3 test.

The training from Michael was far superior to any I had previously received. He opened up my eyes by giving me quality training working on my skills and made it easier to understand.

Very Big thanks to Michael, I would highly recommend him to anyone who's thinking of becoming a driving instructor - ADI

Shabnam Kanval, Nelson, Lancs

"I have just successfully passed my ADI Part 3 Exam so I am now fully qualified and it is the best feeling ever! This is all down to Michael, who trained me and supported me on a one to one basis throughtout the whole journey to becoming a fully qualified ADI.

From the very first meeting through all the training and passing all 3 qualifying exams Michael has always been here to help and guide me especially through those times when I would doubt myself

His training is superb and makes the whole process easy and subsequently easy to teach learners and for the learners to learn to drive... Seems far easier and better than any others in the industry I have spoken to. Michael has given me the knowledge, skills and confidence to be the successful driving instructor I wanted to be and I know I could not have done it without him. Thank you very much Michael

Finally, if you are considering training to be a driving instructor look no further and don't waste your time and energy - train with Michael at MJ Driving School"

Carol Smith, DSA ADI

"Thank you very much for getting me through the DVSA ADI Qualifying exams successfully!. I just passed my final exam, the part 3 and I can say with confidence that it is all down to your hard work and knowledge and superb training that has got me through!

I am so grateful and recommend you fully to anyone considering training to pass any of the ADI exams!  I did exactly what you trained me and the examiner was impressed!"

Saqib Shorkar, DVSA ADI

" I was recommended to Michael for some training following failing my standards check. I am very pleased to say I easily passed the standards check on the re-take and very close to a grade A too. I know with practising the skills Michael has taught me I will get a grade A next time.

His training was really helpfu as I came to know and understand the importance of proper coaching methods as a driving instructor - it real;ly doea make the job easier for both me and my learners. Michael filled me with loads of good and useful practical information as well that all generally make teaching easier.

Thank you for your training and support"

Robert, Manchester

"I can highly recommend Michael as a driver trainer/coach and mentor. I found his training style suited the way I learned very well. At times when I was struggling he was able to motivate and encourage me to find a way forward that none of my other trainers could do.

Since qualifying with Michael I have furthered my career with the inspiration coming from the qualities Michael has to develop himself and his business.

The best part now is we stay in touch and help each other grow.

If anyone can inspire you to pass any driving qualification Learner, Advanced or Driving Instructor Qualifying Exams  Michael will coach you to succeed"

Edward Marshall, Selby

"I would like to say a massive thank you to Michael for all his expert help and never giving up on me.  Michael is a superb trainer and puts 110% in to all training sessions. he makes the process and learning very easy and understandable and never fails to make me smile too

I enjoyed every training session and Mihael is a great coach and motivator too. I am so happy to have now passed all 3 DSA qualifying exams and am now a fully qualified driving instructor. I would never have achieved my goal without Michael. I fully recommend him for any level of training, especially for the DSA 3 qualifying exams"

Salma Saleem, Leeds

"Michael is a brilliant driving instructor trainer - he got me fully qualified easily and quickly, he is very knowledgeable and highly experienced. His training techniques makes it easy and simple to understand. As well as getting me through my ADI qualifying exams he has massively helped me with my Check Tests and Standards Check - spot on!

Ian M, Leeds

"I would never have passed the DSA exams or become a fully qualified driving instructor without the superb, expert training and guidance of Michael. He is so knowledgeable and makes the part 3 and check tests so easy!

Even though I have now been qualfied well over 10 years I always book some training every time I receive a check test / standards check as I find I still always improve and he makes it easy and straight forward.

Having been in the industry for many years now I realise that there are so many establishments that provide substandard training, especially for the ADI Part 3 test, so I would advise anyone who is serious about training or becoming a driving instructor to get yourself trained my Michael to ensure you the best chance of qualifying and also to become a good driving instructor - don't waste your money anywhere else - top bloke, brilliant trainer!

Expected Earnings for a Driving Instructor

The normal/average industry hourly rate for a driving lesson is around £21 to £24 per hour.

When calcualting an expected income remember to take in to consideration some travel time between your clients; so a typical 40 hour working week, could easily be 45 hours including travel time between learners.

Gross income for a 40 hour week = 40 x £23 = £920.00 per week, or £46,000 per year

Gross income for a 30 hour week = 30 x £23 = £690.00 per week, or £34,500 per year

Gross income for a 20 hour week = 20 x £23 = £460 per week, or £23,000 per year

The above figures are average gross incomes and please consider that there will be regular weekly expenses to deduct, for example car, fuel, advertising or a franchise with a school and 2 weeks holiday

A driving instructor has the flexibilty of working either totally independently or working on a franchised basis with an existing driving school. The vast majorty of driving instructors in the UK work on a self employed basis.

If you are already a qualified driving instructor and would like to become more successful have a look at the Instructor Success page or check out the possibility

of working on a franchise with us

Driving Instructor Training - My Story and Testimonials

Martin's Story and Review

After deciding to become a driving instructor I began looking around for the right training. Initially I had contact with most of the big schools and was offered what seemed to be a cracking deal by Red. I had pretty much decided on going with them until during a chance conversation with my daughters driving instructor he mentioned Michael Stanhope and suggested I give him a ring. I left Mike a message explaining what I was thinking of doing and he rang me back within 24 hours and we arranged a meeting at Mikes for and assessment drive and to discuss possible routes.

Right from this first meeting I could tell Mike was my kind of trainer, straight talking with a very clear picture in his mind of how to train me to be a good driving instructor. He seemed to understand what the DSA were looking for and as he had over 20 years of experience it seemed a no brainer.

I started training with Mike in July 2015 and spent my evenings reading theory books and DSA websites to build my theory knowledge. I sat my Part 1 theory test in August 2015 and passed second time missing out first time by 1 mark!

Then it was full steam ahead for the part 2 and part 3 tests. I spent 2-3 hours 3 times a week out with Mike learning the skills and techniques I needed to master. Then I would spend another 3-4 hours in my own time out on the road most evening putting them in to practice.

The instruction from Mike was spot on and always seemed to fix any issues I had within a few minutes. Listening to Mike’s vision of how Instructor training should work and how it was about learning to be a good instructor and not just passing tests helped me to get things in perspective. It gave me the drive and determination to push even when I occasionally didn’t feel like going out driving again.

I passed my Part 2 test with 3 minors on the first attempt in September 2015 and the examiner was quite complimentary about my driving skills which Mike had helped me develop.

Mike and I sat down and came up with a plan for the big final test, part 3. This is the one where most trainees fall by the wayside and I had heard lots of horror stories about how hard it was to pass and that the pass rate was less than 30% etc. However, listening to Mike as we planned our attack filled me with confidence and he assured me that the work we had been doing meant we were already more than 50% ready for the Part 3 test.

The training was excellent, we initially focused on the skills that make a good instructor and then looked at how to build these in to the part 3 test. This ensured that I would have all the skills to be a good instructor when I passed and we weren’t just focusing on training to pass the test.

Mike was amazingly supportive throughout the whole of part 3 and nothing was ever too much trouble. Texted questions were answered promptly and supportive confidence building conversations were the norm whenever we spoke.

I passed the Part 3 first time in October 2015 with a five in phase 1 and a four in phase 2. The examiner was very complimentary again about the skills I displayed and said he was looking forward to seeing my development on the check test.

With the help and support of Mike, his amazing insight in to the industry and his first class instruction techniques I have gone from unqualified to a fully qualified driving instructor with a green badge in less than 16 weeks. This hasn’t been easy and the time commitment from me to train outside of my time with Mike has been significant. But the amazing training and instructional techniques from Mike have made the journey enjoyable and possible.

If you’re looking for an Instructor Trainer who will work with you to make you the best you can be then you have found them and your search if over. Give Mike a ring you won’t regret it I promise.

Sue's Story and Review

"I am currently on “cloud nine” having just passed my part 3 test yesterday on the first attempt!

I understand that it is very rare to pass the part 3 test on the first attempt so I feel blessed!

Blessed for being smart enough to do it but more importantly for finding an exceptional training school to help me pass!

How different things could have been if I hadn’t have found MJ… I wanted to tell you my story so you don’t make the same mistake!

When I initially decided to train as an ADI, I thought I had done my research, the fact is I hadn’t done it well enough.  I found this out, to my detriment, financially & time wise, some months later!

I “interviewed” several national driving schools, thinking biggest is best!  How wrong I was.

I made a decision to train with one of the big names and paid the course fee.  The problems started almost immediately with lack of support, no one returning my calls when I had rang them asked for “help” on several occasions.  I really should have listened to my gut feelings at that time telling me to rethink this.

However I plodded on, passed my part 1 with no help and part 2 fairly quickly however part 3 training fell apart very quickly when my coach left the business suddenly.  It took a month for them to offer a replacement coach despite many calls from me asking for help in resolving this faster.  So I lost a month in my training plan which was a really big issue for me having been made redundant from my job so time really was money to me!

During this month delay I did more research & discovered that this scenario is common place in this school which made me lose all confidence in them, it was then I decided I would only benefit from changing training schools as quickly as possible.

Looking back, the tuition I received from the original school was very poor. Now I have experienced a proper training school in MJ, I know that I wasn’t given any tuition really because I wasn’t offered any guidance to understand  teaching points of “what I should be doing” I was just being told what I was doing wrong with no solutions!

I sent MJ an email from the web site covering, what was to me, my desperate situation, and Mick responded almost immediately.  Mick then spent a considerable time with me the following day (Saturday!), at no cost, to discuss my options.  I was also invited to talk to ADI’s in the school for feedback I even went out on a lesson with them to see how they operate.

Once I heard Micks expertise in the industry and heard about the way he actually “teaches” PDI’s to “teach” pupils it was really a no brainer to join MJ Driving School.

The tuition from MJ was just fantastic.  Not only that, but I also received constant unlimited, unwavering support & encouragement which was invaluable as I think that I had started to doubt my abilities following the poor initial Part 3 tuition I had received elsewhere.  Looking back I can now see that I had actually paid some other school to put negative thoughts in my mind!

MJ makes training easy to understand, all common sense stuff that made complete sense and I was very quickly able to “understand” what an ADI is supposed to do.  I was shown the best ways to teach as well as simple straight forward methods of teaching all subjects that pupils will need to know as well as how to work with the pupil’s individual needs.

MJ was flexible on “all” aspects of training & I strongly believe that I wouldn’t have passed my Part 3 first time if I had struggled on with the previous training school, who frankly seemed to be treating me like a “cash cow”.

If you are reading this then you are considering doing your training with MJ Driving School……my advice is DO IT!   I sincerely hope to be meeting you as a future MJ colleague if you join MJ Driving School as I have done.  Happy & safe driving!
